The small town of Bollington is situated in the county of Cheshire just to the east of Prestbury. In the middle ages the town was part of the Earl Of Chester's manor of Macclesfield. The current population of this small town is just over 7,600 people and steadily growing. On the Southwestern edge of the Peak District Bollington known as the "happy valley" is located on the river dean and the Macclesfield canal.
Back in the 19th and 20th Century Bollington was famed for its cotton spinning and was one of the major centres in the UK. The two main mills from where the spinning took place were the Waterhouse Mill and Clarence Mill. The Waterhouse Mill was eventually knocked down but the Clarence Mill still stands proud today, but has been converted into luxury state of the art apartments and accommodation.
With excellent transport links, the small town of Bollington is just 2 miles from the A523 road that runs from Hazel Grove to Leek through Macclesfield. It is close to various motorways including the M6 and also the M60. Unfortunately Bollington no longer has a railway station but there is good bus networks to get you to the local and major towns within the area.
